The BLM has recently proposed killing the 30,000 plus wild horses that they have removed from our lands. They knew when they conducted these massive round ups that the number removed would far outweigh adoption demand and would leave the vast majority of our wild herds genetically nonviable. But they did it anyway.
Wild horses are important to me and millions around the world.
Secretaires for Interior and Agriculture
Dear Wild Horse Supporters,
President Obama announced the appointment of U.S. Senator Ken Salazar of
Please write Senator Salazar to ask that, once he is confirmed as Secretary of the Interior, that he appoint a BLM Director who will rid the Wild Horse and Burro program of the inept leadership which has jeopardized the future of our wild horses on our public lands. Only 25% of our wild herds are at genetically viable levels and the BLM is planning to remove 60 horses from Cloud's herd alone next year; hundreds more from others---6,000 in all! We will be meeting with Senator Salazar's staff in early January and we'd like for them hear from as many people as possible prior to this meeting. Click here to send a pre-formatted e-mail to Senator Salazar (use your own words for maximum effectiveness or just sign and send). Please copy and send your comments to President-Elect Obama as well.
Thank you for all the letters you wrote on behalf of Grijalva and Boyd. Your response was heartening as usual. These appointments are a setback but with your continued support and efforts, we will secure a future for our wild horses.
Happy Trails and Happy Holidays,
Ginger Kathrens

Let Animals Help You!!!!!
Pets Help to Reduce Stress. Walking with a pet helps to sooth nerves and offers instant relaxation. Studies conducted worldwide have shown that the impact of a stressful situation is lesser on pet owners, especially males, than on those who do not own a pet. (Josephine M. Wills, Waltham Centre for Pet Nutrition, United Kingdom) | |
![]() | Pets Help to Prevent Heart Disease and lower blood pressure. Because pets provide people with faithful companionship, research shows they may also provide their owners with greater psychological stability, thus a measure of protection from heart disease. (National Institute of Health Technology Assessment Workshop: Health Benefits of Pets) |
![]() | Pets Help to Fight Depression. Pets help fight depression and loneliness, promoting an interest in life. When seniors face adversity or trauma, affection from pets takes on great meaning. Their bonding behavior can foster a sense of security. (Between Pets and People: The Importance of Animal Companionship) |
![]() | Add joy. Pets are the best! They’re wonderful companions for kids and adults alike. Just think, no matter how bad a day you had, your dog will still love you, your cat will still cuddle you and your fish will still relax you buy swimming in graceful patterns. From canines to cockatoos, felines to fish, tree frogs to turtles, geckos to guinea pigs, owning a pet can bring immeasurable joy to your life. |
![]() | Add health. There’s nothing like a wagging tail or a friendly paw on your knee to lift your mood. Pets are therapeutic and we have scientific proof! Seriously, research shows that pets really are good for us humans. They help us fight depression, lower our blood pressure, reduce stress and prevent heart disease. All of which helps to lower health care costs. So there you have it, pets are a daily dose of good health and happiness. |
![]() | Add the right pet!!!!! Pets are big, small, furry and scaly. Some have lips, some don’t. The point is, every animal has specific needs for feeding, grooming, exercise and health care. You may have an idea of the type of pet you’d like to own. But your choice might not fit your lifestyle. It’s important to consider the demands of your career or your family before buying a pet. For example, if you’re single, work 12-hour days and travel frequently, a dog wouldn’t be the best choice for you. Before getting a pet, do your homework. Pet ownership is a huge responsibility! Don’t become a pet parent unless you’re prepared to take good care of your new baby. |
What is an Animal Behaviorist?? An animal behaviorist is an individual who has dedicated a lifetime to watching and studying the behavior of animals and their mental and emotional aspects. As well as what may cause those fluxuations. And to help bring the public aware of the complexity of their mental and emotional lives.
If you can feel it, so can they!
Most commonly people who have direct contact with animals can conclude freely the reality and complexity of animal emotions, because they see and observe their pet’s daily life, routine, moods, and much more. However the public is very unaware of the issues that face the facts of Animal Behavior. Many People can not disagree that Animals cry, because they vocalize pain and distress. When you step on your dog they yelp. Dont you think they could have other internal feelings and emotions? So why not gain a greater understanding of the complexity of animal actions—cognitive, perceptual, individual, social, and behavioral complexity.
Although science does not credit giving human emotion to animals, for many people their belief of the complexity of animals often arises from collected evidence of their senses and logical deduction. For example if you see a bird attacking a cat near their nest, the bird is usually thought to be angry. When you see a squirrel run from you, the squirrel is thought to be afraid. If you see a cat licking her kittens, it is often perceived as love. If you herd a bird singing a beautiful song, would you think it to be happy? Humans are no longer as prepared to voice what an animal cannot and can do and be. And in science Anthropomorphism which is giving human emotion to animals, is discredited.
The complexity of an animals emotion is similar to that of people in the way that in people anger and fear, love and shame, shame and sorrow these emotions may come in different situations, Animals may experience this complex pattern of emotion. Perhaps a goose who mates for life that stays by the dead body, and never mates again feels love and sorrow. Animal Emotion is so complex. For example a male dog, will not stay with the bitch and help raise the pups while a male and female wolf will raise the pups together. So many wrongly assume animals are all the same, therefore we can draw the same conclusion about people.
Humans alone are often not aware of their own emotions, and what they are feeling. Animals also may not be able to put their emotions into words. This does not mean they have no feelings. Humans are most accepting to the thought that animals have and feel fear. There is little doubt that humans can communicate through body language, thoughts, and feelings with out words, just as humans communicate through body language, gestures, and expressive acts. Consideration should at least be given to animals and nonverbal statements they make about feelings.
Animals have different perceptual and communication patterns. Animals communicate only needed information and it is through vocalizations, posture, actions, and gesture both to other animals and to humans who are attentive. Although the studies of these patterns are improving, animals need to be judged as an individual. Human’s personalities are so vast. This about the difference in the ones you love, the ones that irritate or clash with you, and the ones you don’t understand. Animals too can have vast personality differences. Most people spend more time analyzing and buying a pair of tennis shoes then they do an animal/reptile they may spend years with. Most people would not pick a partner to spend their life with based only on looks. So why would you pick an animal/reptile as a life friend only on looks. Their behavior is so versatile and should be thoroughly evaluated before choosing which pet is right.
The social behavior of animals can vary between species, as well as whether the animal is predator or prey. A predator like a human sees one vision because their eyes are on the front of their head, and cross making one picture enter our cognitive mind. A predator’s vision allows great depth perception and far distances seeing. A prey animal has a flight response because of the way they perceive the world through their eyes. The start to understanding animal’s behavior is for animal owners to understanding how their animal perceives this world and the workings of their body, and complexity of their perceptual mind. Nearly one hundred percent of prey animals have their eyes on the side of their head, this allows them to see 360 degrees around them and know when prey is coming. Prey animals see many different pictures through their eyes. The prey animals are designed differently than that of a predator through perceptional vision. The prey animal’s vision is magnified to see predators from far. Could you imagine seeing two pictures one from each eye? The complexity of being predator or prey must be factored into any behavioral analysis as well as patterns and anomalies done with animals.
There are many factors to be considered in studying Animal Behavior, which makes it very complex to understand the complexity of animal actions—cognitive, perceptual, individual, social, and behavior. Because it is so hard to understand many don’t bother to try and understand, while others simply say animals don’t have feelings. I will always believe animals have complex ways of thought, and will prove that in my up coming book. I am going to graduate as an Animal Behaviorist and study abroad the topic of animal emotion and behavior. For this material will surely be in it. To help prove to all humans that animals have complex understanding of the world, and cognitive thoughts can be individual and social, they all perceive life differently which makes an Art of the study of Animal Behavior.
